I am unable to find any way to contact Rock Auto directly. Their response was “Unfortunately, Spectra Premium Industries doesn’t sell or do any warranty with the general public.įor any warranty claim, please get in touch with the place of purchase.” Spectra Premium refused to pay for the repair required due to their faulty radiator. Had it been the cost would have been over $2000 to R&R an aftermarket radiator and even more for a new OEM radiator. According to the mechanics that performed the repair (transmission flush) we were very lucky the transmission was not destroyed by this defective radiator. This work was only necessary due to installation of a defective Spectra Premium radiator. This required hours of labor and 20 quarts of transmission fluid for a total cost of $467 We provided a replacement radiator of the same type purchased from Rock Auto under warranty, had it installed, and then the transmission could be thoroughly flushed. They confirmed that the transmission was heavily contaminated with cooling system fluid (mostly water at this point). Without running the engine any more we had the vehicle towed to a local repair shop. We immediately drained the transmission and found significant contamination from the cooling system. It was clear that the brand new radiator had a defect in the transmission cooler that was causing cooling and transmission fluid to cross-contaminate. We immediately drained and flushed numerous times and the oil returned each time. On initial startup of the engine and flushing of the cooling system we immediately found that transmission oil had infiltrated the cooling system. On May 23 I installed the radiator in a 2007 Ford Explorer. But we do try, and attention to sourcing is really what differentiates suppliers in this industry.I purchased “SPECTRA PREMIUM CU2952 ” from Rock Auto on May 12. We're constantly tweaking our sourcing, always trying to have the best available, but it's a difficult process to stay 100% on top of. You can feel good about buying North American, but I confess I prefer Taiwanese or Sherman (US) floors. The Canadian stuff is indeed a bit thicker (Spectra is the old American Designers), but the tooling is really getting old, and does not compare to the Taiwan metal in crispness and tooling-quality, "in general". importer, that's just not telling anything close to the full story of where the part was actually produced, or whether it's the best tooling currently going. So whenever somebody spouts off the marketing brand of a U.S. Much of what they import we have access to directly as well, and the factories are not always household names. Yes, they have certain items that are both proprietary and best-quality, but the proprietary stuff is a small percentage of the lineup. The whole Dynacorn thing is a touchy subject, because Dynacorn is not really a manufacturer. Since there's no rule-of-thumb, only experience and sourcing due-diligence, you really do rely alot upon the care that the supplier has made in their sourcing. Sheet metal sourcing is very complex, there's a ton of rampant misconceptions online as to who makes what, and there's commonly two or more competing toolings for any one part. Pretty much what has been said is correct. Most people just want the cheapest, so be sure to specify you want the best available. If you tell the rep at NPD you want the best quality part, they will likely know which to recommend. They source them from different manufacturers. Dynacorn doesn't actually manufacturer their parts. But I've never compared them to other repop frame rails.Įverything I've used with "Dynacorn" stamped on the box was a good part. I've talked to people online who did not like the Spectra Premium frame rails. The metal is a little thicker than the Asian sheet metal. I went with long floor pans, a quarter panel patch and a fuel tank from Spectra Premium. Thus far I've installed a radiator support, battery apron, cowl, long floor pans, rear seat divider, trunk pan and taillight panel. Then there's an extra shipping charge no matter where you buy online.) Anyway, I think NPD, like Mustangs Unlimited, gives you free shipping on orders over $300, or something like that. If the vendor is giving you free shipping, you're probably paying more for the parts.
